    BODEGAS CARO
Bodegas CARO is a partnership between Nicolas Catena Zapata and Domaine Barons de Rothschild-Lafite which started in 1999, with its own winery located in Godoy Cruz, Mendoza, near the city. They have a separate winery, with an independent oenologist, and aim at blending French and Argentine traditions and grapes, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec, from their 65 hectares of vineyards in high altitude zones.

Bodegas CARO

James Suckling - Incredible aromas of spice, cedar, walnut and dark berry. Floral too. Spectacular nose. Full body, ultra-fine tannins and a racy and refined finish.
Fresh and succulent.
Made from old vines of Malbec in Compuertas and cabernet sauvignon from Altamira.
Such finesse. Half the normal production. The best wine ever from Domaine Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) and Nicolas catena winery.

    VIÑA ALMAVIVA

Together with the SENA wines, ALMAVIVA is consistently one of the best wines to come out of Chile - Recommended!

Proprietary Wine
Viña Almaviva

RP/Luiz Gutierrez - 2015 was a dry and warm year, and the 2015 Almaviva shows ripe and voluptuous, with a full body and sweet fruit on the finish. The varietal breakdown is 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Carménère, 5% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot; the high percentage of the Carménère, a constant in warmer years, comes from Puente Alto and also Peumo, the classical zone for the grape in Cachapoal. The élevage was in 82% new barriques and lasted 18 months. It's creamy and sleek, with polished tannins.  However, the wines show very consistent in the last few years, always harmonious and combining power with elegance.

2015 £135.00 RP/LG94

    VIÑA SENA

RP/Jay Miller - Sena is one of Chile’s icon wines and deservedly so.
Viña Sena was originally a partnership between Eduardo Chadwick and Robert Mondavi but since the demise of the Mondavi empire, Sena has been going it alone. The fruit is entirely sourced from the Sena Hillside Vineyard which is biodynamically farmed.

12 75 SENA
Proprietary Wine
Viña Sena

RP/Luiz Gutierrez - As a comparison to the 2014 vintage of this wine, the 2015 Seña resulted in 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Carmenere, 12% Malbec, 7% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc, with now 12% of the wine matured in new Stockinger oak foudres and the rest in barrique for some 22 months. 2015 might have been a slightly warmer year, but the resulting wine is lower in alcohol and higher in acidity, which provide for a more vibrant mouthfeel and a more focused expression of the character of the place. This vintage has half a degree less alcohol, and the acidity is a little more pungent; and, the amount of wine in foudre seems to help the oak to show better integrated. This is dry, nicely textured, and the replacement of the Merlot by Malbec seems to have also added to the refinement of the tannins that are super-elegant.

2015 110.00 RP/LG96
2018-30
23 37.5 SENA
Proprietary Wine
Viña Sena

RP/Luiz Gutierrez - The blend for the 2014 Seña was 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Carmenere, 11% Malbec, 8% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot from their stony soils. The different grapes are carefully fermented separately and with different regimes of maceration and extraction but always looking for elegance within the natural power of the zone. The final blend was transferred to French oak barrels, 67% of them new (a percentage that seems to be slowly going down), for the élevage of 22 months. This time, some 5% of the volume carried out its aging in new Stockinger foudres. This is very much in line with the 2013 and the direction set by that cool year. The wine is very harmonious, elegant within the house style. Another superb vintage of Seña. This should age effortlessly in bottle.

HALF-BOTTLES - a great way to try a top wine, without having to pay the full price for standard bottle.

2014 £55.00 RP/LG95
