    DOMAINE CHANSON
Since 1999 Domaine Chanson has been owned by the BOLLINGER Champagne  Group.
The domaine is managed by Gilles de Courcel; whose prime focus has been quality at affordable prices.

Jean-Pierre Confuron, Chanson’s Wine Maker, has been awarded the title of
Wine Grower of the Year 2014 by the famous Magazine “La Revue du Vin de France”.

This Domaine has really improved since 2005 due to large-scale investment.
As yet, the market has not woken-up to this fact, so you pay for the wine NOT the label.

Great value - please try them!

13 75cl Pernand Vergelesses
'Les Vergelesses'
1er Cru
Chanson

RP  -
The 2012 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Les Vergelesses comes from a single block of 5.5 hectares, the largest single holding owned by Chanson. There is a sense of vitality and exuberance on the nose with plush black cherry and cassis fruit that is very engaging.
The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, gentle grip but plenty of ripe blackberry and raspberry toward the finish.
This has more charm than the Santenay and would be my pick between the two.

36 75cl Beaune
'Bastion'
1er Cru
Chanson

Maison Chanson  -
B
right ruby colour. Aromas of red berries and liquorice mixed with spicy nuances and a hint of vanilla. Well-balanced, well-structured and mellow. Delicate oak note. Fine tannins. Persistent finish.

Rudy - I have tasted a bottle of this wine recently; lovely! drinking very well now - I highly recommend this wine as great value-for money!

2009 £34.00

The Premiers Crus vineyards of Domaine Chanson are aged in casks in the Bastion cellars.

This cuvée is a blend of grapes sourced from the best/ selected plots among the Premiers Crus of the domaine located on the hill of Beaune.

38 75cl Beaune
'Clos des Feves' - Monopole
1er Cru
Chanson

AM -
This appears to be even riper though not surmature with an expressive nose of raspberry liqueur, cassis and warm earth where the latter element also suffuses the rich, mouth coating and relatively powerful medium-bodied flavors that are structured, intense and impressively persistent.

36 75cl Beaune
'Clos des Mouches'
1er Cru
Chanson

AM -
This is also overtly floral with soft spice elements adding breadth to the pretty and fresh mix of red berry fruit scents. There is a refined mouth feel to the well-detailed and lively middle weight flavours that possess very good mid-palate concentration before culminating in a solidly powerful but balanced finish that is clean and refreshing. This will certainly need a few years of bottle age but should drink well after only 5 or 6 years if desired.

37 75cl Beaune
'Clos des Mouches'
1er Cru
Chanson

AM -
Mild reduction hides the nuance of the fruit but not the fact that it's quite ripe. This ripeness extends to the rich, refined and mineral-driven middle weight flavors that possess a relatively delicate mouth feel and excellent length.
This is a wine of finesse, which is rare in 2009.
2009 £46.00 AM92
2013-25
34 75cl Beaune
'Les Teurons'
1er Cru
Chanson

AM - There is a very mild trace of reduction to the otherwise cool and restrained floral and white orchard fruit aromas that display background nuances of wood and spice. There is impressive volume to the quite seductively textured medium-bodied flavours that possess plenty of mouth coating extract that buffers well the moderately firm acid spine on the mineral-driven, dry and balanced finish. This is not presently super complex but the underlying material is certainly present to allow it to develop and my score awards the benefit of the doubt in this regard.

24 75cl Nuits St Georges
'Les Chaines Careteaux'
1er Cru
Chanson

NO Review for this wine at present, but this is what RP had to say for the NSG Village wine; so this wine will be a lot better!!

RP - The 2012 Nuits Saint Georges comes from 3.5 hectares of vine in the southern sector of under Les Pruliers and Les Vaucrains. There is a sense of purity, playfulness and joie-de-vivre on the nose that is very engaging, while the palate is rounded and generous with structured red and black, quite masculine fruit. This is a very decent village cru from Chanson.

23 75cl Santenay
''Beauregard'
1er Cru
Chanson

RP - The 2012 Santenay 1er Cru Beauregard comes from 1.5 hectares from one main block located close to the windmill and two satellite blocks further down the slope. It has a deep, slightly rustic, black tea-scented bouquet that is broody but well-defined. The palate is medium-bodied with firm structure, quite dry and foursquare, serious and broody with a slight astringency toward the finish.

8 75cl Clos Vougeot
Grand Cru
Chanson

AM -
A deft touch of wood sets off a similar earthy red berry fruit nose in the sense that it is reserved to the point of being mute. The equally earthy and broad-scaled flavours possess excellent volume and the tannins are fully ripe and are buffered by an abundance of dry extract, all wrapped in a hugely long and mouth coating finish. Like the Clos de Bèze, this is unabashedly built to age and will need all of 20 years to arrive at its peak.
 In a word, terrific.

2015-33
21 75cl Gevrey Chambertin
Chanson

AM -
I like the complexity of the menthol and floral suffused nose that also displays fresh and ripe red and dark currant aromas. There is good vibrancy and intensity to the mineral-inflected medium weight flavours that contrast a supple mid-palate against a firm and mildly austere finish and overall, this is very Gevrey in basic character.
2012 £34.00 AM89
2018-28
33 75cl Gevrey Chambertin
Chanson

AM -
Here the agreeably fresh nose offers a notable step up in aromatic complexity with pretty aromas of red, blue and black pinot fruit along with the expected notes of earth and underbrush. There is plenty of tannin-buffering dry extract that imparts a succulent character to the lightly mineral-inflected flavours that display excellent persistence.
A quality villages.

6 75cl Charmes Chambertin
Grand Cru
Chanson

Jancis Robinson/JH -
Cask sample. Mid crimson. Dusty and slightly meaty notes adding complexity to the fruit, which quickly becomes more fragrant in the glass. Savoury and fine-boned on the palate. There’s plenty of succulent fresh fruit, all contained in an upright structure.
Not in the least flashy – or fleshy. Super-precise.
2015 £150.00 JH18/20
2025-40
12 75cl Charmes Chambertin
Grand Cru
Chanson

AM -
An elegant array blends both upper and lower register aromas of airy red and dark berry fruit with distinct earth, humus and underbrush scents. There is a relatively refined mouth feel to the suave and seductively textured middle weight plus flavours that are opulent and concentrated before terminating in a well-balanced and serious finish that displays outstanding depth and length. This firmly structured effort will need plenty of cellar time to arrive at its majority.
2012 £115.00 AM94
2020-35
11 75cl Charmes Chambertin
Grand Cru
Chanson

AM -
A very floral nose also displays notes of earth, animale, red berries and a vegetal character that adds depth. The rich, fresh and solidly well-concentrated big-bodied flavours exude subtle spice notes on the complex and seriously long finish where the stems are in clear evidence.
This is really very good but the presence of the stems is obvious and thus this will not be for everyone.

6 75cl Chambertin
'Clos des Beze'
Grand Cru
Chanson

Jancis Robinson/JH -
Cask sample. Mid dark crimson. Sweet oak spice entwined with really ripe cherry fruit. Dark, dry finesse on the palate. Extremely elegant but all hidden at the moment. Plenty of freshness like a seam through the dark, dry youthful reticence.
2015 £215.00 JH18/20
2025-40
12 75cl Chambertin
'Clos des Beze'
Grand Cru
Chanson

AM -
A highly spiced nose offers up notes of very fresh and ripe black cherry, cassis, earth and soft floral nuances. In the same vein as the Charmes there is a relatively elegant mouth feel but in this case there is both more volume as well as more evident minerality to the overtly powerful but velvety big-bodied flavours that are backward, intense and wonderfully long.

Wine Spectator -
This red is full of sweet berry and cherry fruit, providing a lushness and succulence that belie the firm underlying structure. It's harmonious already at this stage, boding well for its development. Berry and spice accents linger.

8 75cl Chambolle Musigny
1er Cru
J. Drouhin

RP/DS -
Drouhin’s 2008 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru boasts ripe, fresh cherry and strawberry tinged with cinnamon and smoky black tea, suggestions of leather and forest floor becoming more prominent as part of a satisfyingly long, spicy, sweetly-fruited finish. I would anticipate at least 7-9 years of interest here, but there looks to be no risk in enjoying some young, too.

Here too the more expressive nose is cool and airy with its spicy combination of red cherry, pomegranate, floral and wisps of gentle earth. The palate feel of the middle weight and equally mineral-inflected flavours is finer still thanks to the silky tannins that shape the precise, even chiselled, and energetic finale where a hint of austerity arises. This is really lovely stuff and an entirely classic ESJ.

'Lavaut Saint Jacques'
 1er Cru
Frederic Esmonin

AM -
A distinctly cool and airy nose exhibits notes of red and dark pinot fruit along with a plethora of soil and underbrush nuances that make this very Gevrey in character. What makes this different from a typical LSJ is the silky mouth feel of the middle weight flavours that exude a discreet minerality onto the dusty, serious and once again tautly muscular finale. This is also very good provided that you have the patience to wait at least a few years.

Mazy-Chambertin

AM -
A tight and restrained nose grudgingly liberates notes of the sauvage, various dark berry scents and plenty of earth and underbrush wisps. The focused, intense and muscular medium weight flavours possess notably more size and weight though this is by no means massive, all wrapped in a lingering, balanced and solidly complex finale. This too should benefit significantly from at least 6 to 8 years of bottle age while being capable of rewarding 12 to 15.

This is also noticeably restrained with its cool nose of truffle, spice, plum and earth, all of which is trimmed in a deft touch of wood. There is both good volume and intensity to the even more mineral-driven middle weight flavours that possess a lovely sense of underlying tension before terminating in a dusty and long if not quite as well-balanced finale due to a touch of dryness that I ascribe to the recent bottling.

11 75cl Chambolle Musigny
'Les Baudes'
 1er Cru
Jadot

AM -
Like the Fuées, this is highly perfumed and very Chambolle with its restrained, complex and ultra-pure nose of red pinot fruit but here there is a more evident taut muscularity to the delineated, intense and equally pure medium-bodied flavours that possess excellent energy as well as a mineral-streak that runs to the serious, dusty and driving finish. I quite like this and the balance and concentration should permit it to age well for at least a decade and last several more. Impressive.
