    DOMAINE ARNOUX-LACHAUX
A top Burgundy specialist, so whatever wine you buy from this domaine you get quality!

55 75cl Bourgogne Rouge
'Pinot Fin'
Arnoux-Lachaux
AM -
A very fresh and lightly spiced nose of red and dark currant leads to supple and admirably pure flavours that display just a hint of earth on the balanced, persistent and saline-inflected finish.
This would make a good house red.
2012 £12.00 AM88
2015-21

Note: from 60+ year old vines based on the original pinot fin strain that is so highly regarded today.

    DOMAINE FAIVELEY
Top Burgundy domaine, with large holdings of top wines, as well as good quality 'drinkers'.

22 75cl Mercurey Rouge
 'Framboisiere'
Domaine Faiveley
jancisrobinson.com/Julia Harding:
Cask sample. Mid cherry red. Deliciously fragrant with red fruit. It may be auto-suggestion but there's raspberry fruit in here. A touch smoky but fine and refined with freshness to the end. Juicy, lively.
2015 £18.00 JR/JH16.5
2018-24

    WHITE WINE
    DOMAINE CHANSON
Since 1999 Domaine Chanson has been owned by the BOLLINGER Champagne  Group; who in 2001 embarked on large-scale investment programme aimed at improving the quality of the wines.
This Domaine has really improved since 2005 due to large-scale investment.
As yet, the market has not woken-up to this fact, so you pay for the wine NOT the label.

Great value - please try them!

65 75cl Macon
'La Roche Vineuse'
Chanson

RP - The 2011 Macon-La Roche-Vineuse has a lifted bouquet with apple peel, pear and a touch of nectarine that is well-defined but needs more vigour. The palate is nicely balanced with hints of white peach and nectarine on the entry, and a touch of spice on the sidelines.

2011 £8.00 RP86

    DOMAINE FAIVELEY
Top Burgundy domaine, with large holdings of top wines, as well as good quality 'drinkers'.

35 75cl Mercurey Blanc
'Clos Rochette'
Domaine Faiveley

AM -
A pungent nose combines notes of petrol, straw, pear and a whiff of citrus rind. I like both the volume and punch of the middle weight flavours that emanate a subtle minerality on the clean, dry and moderately complex finale. This saline-inflected effort should drink well young.
2016 £20.00 AM89
2018-24

    MAISON VERGET
Top Maconais negociant.
RP/William Kelley -
Jean-Marie Guffens's Verget label, today superintended by the able Julien Desplans, continues to be a reference point for the Mâconnais. The best cuvées very much belong among the Mâconnais's élite, but this portfolio is also rich with terrific values to purchase by the case that would make ideal daily drinkers or by-the-glass pours.
Classy but keenly priced white Burgundy isn't easy to come by these days, so we should all be thankful for the Maison Verget. These wines come warmly recommended
NOTE: This section lists all of the Verget wines, irrespective of their price.
21 75cl Chablis
'Cuvee de la Butte'
Verget

AM -
There is a bit more typicity to the pear, citrus and iodine-scented nose that displays a somewhat curious hint of sauvignon blanc. There is better vibrancy to the detailed and subtly mineral-inflected medium weight flavours that culminate in a saline, complex and slightly more persistent finale. This too should drink well young.
2015 £15.00 AM88
2018-24
33 75cl Macon Terroirs de Vergisson
'La Roche'
Verget

AM -
A trace of residual sulphur blows off relatively quickly to reveal attractively layered aromas of honeysuckle, pear and apple. There is good underlying tension to the lightly saline-inflected medium weight flavours that possess a delicious yet entirely serious finish. This is lovely, particularly for what it is and I like the lemon-tinged finale.
2012 £14.00 AM88
2014-20
36 75cl Macon -Bussières
'Vignes de Montbrison'

Verget

RP/William Kelley -
Aromas of green apples, mint, white flowers and crisp peach introduce the 2016 Mâcon-Bussières Vignes de Montbrison, a medium to full-bodied, succulent wine with excellent concentration, tangy acids and a long, chalky finish. This was cropped at around 40 hectolitres per hectare, and that shows in its depth and seriousness.
2016 £16.00 RP90
2018-24
36 75cl Saint-Veran
'Vigne de Saint-Claude'

Verget

RP/William Kelley -
The 2016 Saint-Véran Vigne de Saint-Claude is another of the highlights of Verget's 2016 portfolio, offering up a classy bouquet of green orchard fruit, citrus blossom and pastry cream. It's ample, satiny and racy on the palate, with nice length and stony grip on the finish. It was impacted less heavily by hail than the Terroirs de Davayé bottling and remains quite classic in profile.
2016 £17.00 RP90
2018-25
48 75cl Pouilly Fuissé
'La Roche'
Verget

RP/William Kelly -
The 2016 Pouilly-Fuissé La Roche is the king of the Verget cellar this year, unfurling in the glass with aromas of crisp yellow orchard fruit, green pear, nutmeg and almond paste. On the palate, it's full-bodied, ample and satiny, with a rich core of fruit balanced by tangy acids, concluding with a long and precise finish. It's hard to find better value in the Mâconnais than this.
2016 £26.00 RP93
2018-26
