LAFON ROCHET
St Estephe
Vinous.com/Antonio Galloni -
The 2017 Lafon-Rochet has really come together
nicely since I tasted it in barrel. Deep, rich and yet also vibrant,
the 2017 has so much to offer. In 2017, Lafon-Rochet is a wine of
precision and class. What it lacks in overt body, it has in
persistence and that most elusive quality in wine - personality. I
don't expect the 2017 to be especially long-lived, but it will offer
fine drinking over the next decade or so.

LAFON ROCHET
St Estephe
RP/Neal Martin -
The 2014 Lafon
Rochet has a very attractive, slightly floral bouquet with raspberry and
crushed strawberry fruit, a touch of rose petals lending this a feminine
allure. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, ripe tannins. This
feels quite dense in the mouth, a welcome pinch of white pepper and
cedar lending complexity to the finish with tart cherries on the
aftertaste. This is probably more forward than other Saint Estephe
wines, but it should give 15-20 years of pleasure.

CHATEAU MEYNEY
St Estephe
Vinous.com/Neal Martin -
The 2016 Meyney has
a very deep colour. The bouquet is a stunner, delivering intense,
mineral-rich black fruit pixelated to the nth degree. This is extremely
focused and conveys the energy of a tightly coiled spring. The
extremely well-balanced palate offers fine-grained tannins and superb
acidity. Very pure and focused, with a harmonious, vibrant finish
that lingers in the mouth. You can feel this lingering 45–60 seconds
after the wine has exited. Wonderful. Tasted blind at the Southwold
tasting in August 2020.

ORMES de PEZ
St Estephe
RP/Lisa Perrotti-Brown -
Deep garnet coloured, the 2010 Ormes de Pez slips
sensuously from the glass with seductive blackberry pie, Black Forest
cake and kirsch scents plus nuances of candied violets, hoisin, dark
chocolate and licorice. Full-bodied, rich and plush in the mouth, it
has a fantastic line of freshness lifting all the decadent fruit to a
long, energy-sparked finish.

TRONQUOY-LALANDE
St Estephe
Vinous.com/Neal Martin -
The 2016
Tronquoy-Lalande has a concentrated bouquet featuring a more open fruit
profile compared to the 2016 La Dame de Montrose, offering blackberry,
raspberry and light cassis notes and revealing touches of cedar and
incense with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple
tannins and a fine bead of acidity, and quite linear, leading into a
nicely detailed, quite tensile finish. Another Saint-Estèphe that
needs time, but this is a classy number. Tasted blind at the
Southwold tasting in August 2020.

TRONQUOY-LALANDE
St Estephe
RP/Neal Martin -
The 2014 Tronquoy-Lalande has a crisp, graphite
and black fruit nose, tightly wound with very fine precision. The
palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, plenty of graphite and cedar
infusing the black fruit, although I find the finish just a little
clipped and lacking a little finesse compared to some of the other Saint
Estèphes. Still, this has good potential.
